Tiles are beautiful and elegant and practical. Tiles also take a lot of time and attention to install.
So if you’re going to use tile in your home, why not make it bold and original?
Tile is great because there are plenty of finishes to choose from and an endless variety of colors, shapes and patterns–what you can achieve with it is only limited by your imagination. So make your tile choice count–design something bold and amazing with it!
Here are a few ideas to get your creative mind going.
Bold color
You can use tile to boldly add color where no color has been before… oh, wait, that’s Star Trek. But you get the idea.
In a fresh, white room, this blue and green tile wall certainly makes a statement–and easily reminds us of the ocean or a waterfall. It’s a choice that’s both thematically suitable and gorgeous to look at.
Colorful, random tiles can be used quite successfully too. There doesn’t need to be an obvious pattern or idea–just put together tiles you like in any order for something original and unexpected.
But sometimes it’s good to match wall and tile colors, especially if they are as bold as in this modern bathroom.
Yellow tiles! Yellow tiles everywhere, even on the breakfast bar!
Bold pattern
Tiles can also be used to create bold, eye-catching patterns that enliven any type of room.
Bathrooms seem to inspire a lot of tile work! These tiles look like fish scales, making their use in a bathroom quite appropriate. The design is still unexpected and original, and will have guests come out of the loo saying: “I love your tile! Where did you get it?”
This bubble tile is unexpected and gives the impression of a pebble beach or of bubbles splashing out of a waterfall. I love how the designer moves from darker colors at the bottom to all clear at the top.
Patterned Mediterranean tiles make for great outdoor spaces. I love how the tile continues around the door too, and how no step is exactly the same.
Bold placement
Bold and strategic placement of your tile can also have a surprisingly bold effect.
How about some all-over tile, instead of just in the shower? It gives the room a nice sense of harmony and unity, and reduces the “cutting” effect of the wall. I could also have featured this in the pattern section!
Notice how the shower tile spills out of the shower. This is a clever way to break up straight lines and provide interesting movement to a room that is otherwise all square and straight.
Sometimes, all you need is accent tile in an unexpected place. The double line of blue and green tile is a nice touch, and certainly more original than white tile all over.
This gorgeous tile “rug” brings just the right amount of color to this Mediterranean-themed bathroom. It marks the transition between inside and outside the room.
Too bold?
I must say that all of these pictures have got me excited about all the amazing possibilities of tiles. You should have a look at what BuildDirect has to offer. Maybe something will click with you.
In any case, how do you like these? Are they too bold, or do you want to rip your floor out and install a bold, exciting new tile style? Have you done something bold with tile? Let us know in the comments!
