Hardwood Flooring And Interior Design: An Infographic

One of the great things about hardwood flooring is how visually versatile it is. There are so many stylistic applications, interior design and architectural traditions, and installation layouts that hardwood flooring is ready to serve.

It’s been well established here at BuildDirect that in terms of visual effect, there really are no rules when it comes to designing a space other than the rule of making a space reflect the people who live there. But, sometimes it’s helpful to have a few starting points on this score. So, with that in mind, here’s an infographic based on a piece published here a while back about how hardwood floor can complement a surrounding interior design approach.

Take a look!

To underscore an earlier point, the above are great examples of how to match a style, variety, surface, or cut of a specific type of hardwood floor with surrounding decor. But, even better, these are not hard and fast rules. Think of them as a way to spark your own ideas of how to match a floor with a design tradition.

Maybe matching isn’t even the point for you. Maybe you’re more interested in contrast, a visual dynamic that often brings out the subtleties to an even greater effect, or makes the starkly demanding element in your space speak even louder. It all depends on you, and what it is that you value when it comes to designing, and living in, a space.

Your own ideas and experiences with hardwood flooring

So, what design tradition would you match or contrast with which hardwood floor?

What have you got going on in your space right now?

Are there combinations not covered above that you think should have been?

Tell us all about it in the comments section of this here post!

Cheers!

Rob.
