slate-and-natural-stone-blog-amalgamation

My colleague, Marc McPherson, posts on his terrific Natural Stone blog and covers granite and travertine. My Slate blog will soon be amalgamated within Marc’s blog to give a more diverse and interesting view of natural stone. There will still be dedicated slate posts – just not on a daily basis. Our writing styles are pretty different, so you can easily tell who the author is on any particular day!

Thanks to everyone who is presently subscribed to my Slate blog. To ensure an uninterrupted flow of posts during the transition, please subscribe to the Natural Stone blog by clicking here. The change should be happening over the next few days.

Thanks!

Peter Phillips.

A recent photo taken at the Chinese factory we contract to produce slate tiles. This is the latest batch of Light Rusty that has been machined and is ready for packaging. This is a popular choice with customers and is often specified as an alternative to the regular Rusty color.

Have you ever used this product? It would be great to hear about your experiences installing this attractive slate. Please post a comment!

Copper Quartzite Indian slate tile is a great looking stone that is produced in either a natural split-face or honed/polished finish. It is also available as tumbled, however much of the intrinsic sheen is removed with this finish.

Honed/polished Copper Quartzite slate is often confused with granite - it is shiny (although it does not quite have the same degree of luster) and is typically found in commercial buildings that have high-volume foot traffic. Because of the high quartz content, it is extremely durable and hard wearing, almost on a par with granite.

I have written about another quartzite slate (Silver Gray) in a previous post on this blog. Click the link to see it: “Wow! is that granite?”.

We are fortunate enough at BuildDirect to get many photos sent to us from customers who have finished their slate installations.

This photo is of a back yard in Mobile, AL. The Silver Gray Quartzite 16″x16″ slate tile lends it a very contemporary look. I think that the diagonal installation also adds to the overall effect.

I have requested higher resolution photos from the customer and will display them on our website with the other installed images once they have been received.

Do you have a slate tile installation that you are particularly proud of? If so, please post a comment with a link to your photos.
