How many times have you heard about the hardwoods Ipe and Cumaru? Two very good species that give the rich brown tones buyers do like. Ipe is the better known species, and is one of the hardest woods in the world, with a nickname like Ironwood I don’t need to add more. Its strength is great and will add value to any home.
Cumaru is very close to Ipe in hardness and durability also, and again will give years, or decades, of service.
The species will not give off splinters or slivers, with some UV water repellent sealer the woods will keep their color tones for years. Performance wise for decking both are excellent hardwoods. Check them out.

Are the Cumaru and Ipe sold on BD, sustainably harvested species?
Thanks.
Hi Joel,
Our camaru and ipe decking products are Lacey Act compliant, which means that the harvesting of the wood is very strictly regulated, as is the supply chain that gets it from harveting to market at every stage.
In terms of sustainability on this specific product, one advantage that these species offers is durability, and the unlikelihood that it will need to be replaced due to weather damage, rot, or insect damage. Ipe is the only decking material that has an A class fire rating which is ideal for areas prone to forest fires like BC interior or the CA mountain sides. To compare it Concrete has an A class rating.
I hope that answers your questions, and thanks for asking them.
