I doesn’t take a Rocket Scientist (and believe me I’m no Rocket Scientist) to figure out that the US is currently in a recession and the dollar is dropping a furious pace, as shown in the, 3 month, Chinese Yuan to USD graph above. To be honest up until 5 years ago I didn’t know the Chinese currency was call the Yuan. Now with its direct influence on Bamboo prices I watch it daily. Prior to June 05 the USD and the Yuan we linked and flucuated together but since then the USD has depreciated 18% and continues to go lower……
The impact of this can be seen in the increase of Bamboo Flooring prices.

As you probably know bamboo is used in many different applications, from chopsticks to flooring but you may not know that outdoor decking is also a option.
Whether it is bamboo stocks are split and manufactured into click together tiles,

Or Strand Woven material that is treated with oil based finishes and milled with a unique surface finish

Bamboo can give you options other than Cedar, Redwood or Composite.

While on the topic of repairing wood floors I thought I would “roll” along to dents. Yes, since many Wood and Bamboo floors are dented by refrigerator wheels the word “roll” was strategically used.
Here is an interesting way to fix a dented floor. It makes absolute sense since water does swell wood and bamboo.

I came across a great site over the weekend and they have some good information on how to repair scratches in Hardwood floors and the same practices can be followed for Bamboo.
Please view it here and let me know what you think.

Previously I have written about adhesives and the importance of using 100% urethane based products. Unfortunately one of our associates use a Synthetic Latex product and here are the results.

As you can see the floor is cupping. This is because the underside on the Bamboo has been soaking in the Synthetic Latex Glue, which is water based.

Well after writing the last post I did a little research into how to fix scratches on hard wood flooring and came across this site.
At first I wrote off the idea of using nut oil to hide surface scratches but after further thought it makes perfect sense that the oils would hide the light white scratches. And you can’t get much more environmentally friendly!!
If some one has tried this I would love to hear your feedback.
